Whether you are traveling to Key West, Fla. or Toronto, Canada, here is a great idea to keep it simple when traveling with kids. During my seven years as a flight attendant, my schedule could change at the drop of a hat, so I was always prepared for both sunny destinations and colder climates….yes, in one bag. So here is the trick to packing everything your family needs into one bag: fold your clothes in half and then roll them up, burrito style! Not only will this save space, it also helps keep the wrinkles out! I’m proud to say that I can pack for a full seven days in one roll-a-board bag that is not all that large! There you have it: a trick that gives roll-a-board a new meaning!

Reebok and Tous in Hartsfield-Jackson’s C Concourse are just two of the airport’s many retail outlets.

Here at our hometown hub in Atlanta, the airport has done a great job of attracting a crowd of vendors to suit a traveler’s every need. Here are just a few of the highlights:

  • Rest and relaxation: Minute Suites on B Concourse rents private suites for napping, watching TV or just escaping from the noise.
  • Spa time: Full-service spa treatments, manicures and pedicures are offered at the XpressSpa on Concourses A and C.
  • New outfit: Brooks Brothers (Atrium), Lacoste (B Concourse) and Reebok (B and C Concourse) are just a few of the clothing and accessory outlets in Atlanta’s airport. Convenient for those last-minute purchases!
  • Bite to eat: Whether you’re looking for a quick bite to eat or a sit-down meal, restaurants are around every corner. You can even sample Atlanta’s hometown brew at the Sweet Water Brew House on B Concourse.
  • Under the weather: The AeroClinic in the atrium has you covered if a medical need arises. They also set up flu shot booths in the concourses during flu season!

These are just a few of the retail and service outlets at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and it seems there is always something new moving in. So, next time you find yourself with a long layover in Atlanta, spend a little time seeing what the airport has to offer.

Packing my roll-a-board bag is artfully challenging. The bag itself is a bit smaller than average, so once I pack a pair of shoes in addition to those on my feet, space is at a premium. I call her Baby Blue (that’s opposed to “Big Red,” the name of my huge backpack I got when I was 17 and heading to Europe for the first time) because, well, she’s small, she’s blue and she goes everywhere with me.

Whether I’m heading home to see my parents, or making an overnight stop at one of Atlantic Southeast’s field locations to visit with a team, Baby Blue makes the trip … but usually by a fraction of time.

Before the days of liquid carry on bans by the Transportation Security Administration, my mom would load up her oversized green vinyl vanity bag with all the shampoo, lotion, sunscreen and toothpaste our family could possibly need for summer vacation. The process generally started at the local discount store, buying each item based on what offered the most bang for the buck (think shampoo with the “25 percent more free!” sticker). Once the family bag was stocked, which generally didn’t happen until the morning of the flight after we had finished using our 64 ounce bottle of conditioner, it weighed as much as a toddler and could provision an entire army platoon.

Gone are the days that air travel is gushed over as glamorous. I know that. But just because it’s not viewed through rose-colored glasses doesn’t mean that flying has to land at the other end of the experience spectrum.

I know that no matter what part of the company I work in, I’m part of something bigger than what I do as an individual; all Atlantic Southeast people play a critical role in connecting you to the people and places that matter most in your life. And we’re not only empowered to make a difference in the customer experience at our point of contact, but we have a strong customer commitment strategy that helps guide our operational decisions when things don’t quite go as planned.
